How to Automatically Back up Your WordPress Files and Database with UpdraftPlus

How to set up UpdraftPlus to automatically back up self-hosted WordPress sites | Blog to Biz

Here’s the thing. You can never have too many backups of your website.

Am I being paranoid?

Well… not really.

Hold up, hear me out, k?

You see, web servers are not impregnable. They can have a system malfunction just like anything else. True, a good hosting company will have ways of their own to have multiple backups, but even that can fail. And that’s why it is so very important that you’re hosted with a really good and reputable company.

Over here at Blog to Biz, I recommend SiteGround [affiliate link] because I really trust these guys, and host all my websites with them myself. In fact, I even move my clients (who’re not with SiteGround already) to SiteGround these days. Yeah… I don’t like to take chances. They have free backups with ALL of their hosting packages, and one-click restore with most of them. But that said…

I’ve literally heard horror stories where some XYZ hosting company went down and lost files and ended up with permanently corrupted databases. In fact, not too long ago I was reading about a photographer whose 8-year old website was just gone… yeah… GONE! Just like that! Poof!

8 Blogging Facts No One Really Talks About (Hint: It’s Hard)

8 Blogging Facts the blogging gurus don't really want to talk about, that I had to learn the hard way. And now here I am, shedding light on the dark side of blogging | Blog to Biz

Contrary to what you see splashed across Pinterest, you CANNOT start a REAL blog in just 10 minutes.

Even 10 freakin’ hours may not be enough to start your blog.

And today I’m here to tell you why.

I’ve been blogging for a long time now… ever since I got my very first desktop PC — a hand-me-down from my uncle. At that time, the only blogging platform that I knew of was Blogger.

Back in those days, no one that I knew blogged except this one off-beat internet friend that I had made on MSN chat (yeah…) We never saw one another in person, but he was the most “tech-savvy” teenager I knew, and he introduced me to the world of HTML, CSS, and coding in general, and then eventually, to blogging.

All my blogs, however, have been some version or another of a personal diary. The concept of blogging as something more than that was largely foreign to me until a few years ago when I started freelancing. That’s when I learned the true power of a blog.

And so the journey began.

How to be an Authentic Blogger: 5 Tips for Standing Out in a Saturated Niche

5 Tips for being authentic in a saturated world where no idea is a unique idea.

Ever since I entered the blogging and freelancing world, I keep hearing the terms authentic, original, unique, impostor syndrome being thrown around a lot. The first three terms are fairly similar in meaning, the last being that of lacking the quality of the first three.

I get it. I think those of us who’re in a position to create content regularly have, at some point, felt like an imposter. We struggle to create content that people would want to read, content useful to them. But no matter what we think of writing, most of it, if not all, have been written already by someone out there, if not by many.

In other words, there is hardly anything left that has not yet been said.

Anything and everything you can think of has been thought of by someone else.

Many times over.

So, what does it mean for us content creators? Are we doomed to become another mediocre voice out there, shouting in the abyss of content overload, to be heard by none? …

How to Point Domain to WordPress Website Hosted with SiteGround (or any other hosting company)

A step-by-step tutorial for how to point your domain to your hosting company | Blog to Biz

Call me paranoid, but having my domain and hosting with the same company scares the sh*t outta me!

Because you know what? I’ve heard HORROR stories where hosting company got screwed in mysterious ways, erased databases and lost all backup files, AND took FOREVER to unlock domains to their owners causing people to lose not only their websites but also causing them to lose their first page Google ranking because of it.

And I have heard this story not once, but quite a few times!

So, if you ask me, I’d rather be paranoid than lose Google ranking or go without my website for days.

Having your domain and hosting from separate providers is always a good idea and adds an extra layer of security should something unimaginable occur.

5 Writing Tips from One Newbie Blogger to Other Newbie Bloggers

Readers gobble up well-written content -- a must-have for successful blogs. Here are 5 tips for writing such content that readers can't stay away from | Blog to BizThe world has gone up in flames just in the last few days, but the most pressing question facing us bloggers, especially the newbie ones like myself, is this: HOW TO BE A SUCCESSFUL BLOGGER WITH MILLIONS OF MONTHLY READERS?

Hey, it’s important! After all, we bloggers are striving to help our readers. It’s our BIG WHY! One reader at a time, we are enriching the lives of those we reach through our blogs every single day.

And, at the heart of this “success” we’re all striving for, is the content itself.

Let’s face it. The pre-requisite to being a successful blogger is… no, not a clever domain name, and no, it’s not a chic WordPress theme either… it’s a love for writing. Without that, my fellow compadres, we’re all doomed to mediocrity, if not worse. …
